Spring 2026

News from the Manager

KarenAs Spring arrives, there is a sense of anticipation in the air. Longer days, more sunshine, and the promise of warmer temperatures remind us of new beginnings. At BTC, spring means something else — it is time to get back out into the communities we are proud to serve. It gives us the opportunity to reconnect face-to-face, visit with our members, and be present at the events and gatherings that make our communities special.

This year is special for BTC. We are proud to celebrate 75 years as your local telecommunications provider. Seventy-five years of service and neighbors serving neighbors. What began as a commitment to bring essential communication services to rural families has grown into a fiber-based network connecting our members to work, school, healthcare, and each other. While technology has changed, one thing remains constant: our mission to serve our communities. We’re celebrating the legacy that brought us here and the future we’re building together by investing in the next 75 — strengthening our network, supporting our communities, and serving our members with integrity.

One of our favorite BTC traditions is right around the corner — Customer Appreciation Days in June. This event is more than food and fellowship; it’s our chance to thank the people who make our cooperative possible — you. Mark your calendars now: the first one is June 16th in our McCracken County, New Hope service area at New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 4pm-6pm. Then on June 18th, 11am- 1pm, we will be waiting to see you at our BTC office for lunch and a gift. We can’t wait to celebrate!

In a world dominated by large telecommunications corporations, it’s worth remembering what makes BTC different. First, BTC is owned by the members we serve. That means decisions are made with your best interest in mind, not corporate shareholders. We invest in the communities we serve. When large telecom companies generate profits, those dollars leave our communities. When BTC succeeds, we reinvest here — upgrading infrastructure, supporting local initiatives, and strengthening the place we call home. At BTC, you get local service and accountability. If you call our office, you talk to someone who knows the area and understands our local communities because they live here too. If something is wrong or you have a question, we do not hide behind call centers. We are accessible and invested in doing what is right. As a cooperative, serving rural communities is not a secondary priority — it is our primary mission.

As we celebrate this milestone year, BTC employees and trustees express gratitude for those who served before us and for the members who trust us. We’re proud of our past and committed to a future of serving you. Looking toward the next 75 years, be certain BTC will continue to show up and serve with the same heart and commitment that brought us here.

Thank You For Your Years of Service!

Internet Safety and Cybersecurity Training for Seniors

April 23,  9AM – 11AM

159 West Second Street, La Center, KY 42056

The BTC staff invites anyone that is 60 years old or above to attend an Internet safety and Cybersecurity class on Thursday, April 23 from 9 am to 11 am. Space is limited, so please RSVP by April 15th to secure your seat. We will have treats and some giveaways as well!

Whether it’s phishing, malware, or password attacks, older adults over 60 experience higher rates of cybercrime than any other age group. That’s why BTC is committed to reducing the disproportionate impact of digital crime, scams and financial fraud targeting older adults through education.

The BTC IT Staff will explain the various ways cyber criminals obtain your information via phishing and other ways to steal your identity. We will also show you how tools available with your current BTC Internet service can protect you from cyber criminals. And we know many of you have grandchildren in your home and we will show you how to protect them.

The staff of BTC invites you to join us on Thursday, April 23 from 9 am to 11 am for an easy-to-understand approach to protect yourself and family from Cybercrime. Please RSVP by contacting our office at 270-665-5186. We look forward to seeing you on the 23rd!

BTC Staff? How do you know?

BTC works hard every day making sure your service is working at peak performance. Occasionally we must come to your house to ensure your service is working properly for you. How do you know if it is a BTC technician? If we visit your home or office, whether it is an appointment or not, please ask to see the technician’s company issued ID card. Our company IDs will have a picture of the staff member, full name and the BTC logo. The vehicle will prominently display our logo.

If you are still not sure or comfortable that the technician is who they say they are, ask them to wait outside and contact the BTC Headquarters at 270-665-5186. We will confirm that the person who is at your house is from BTC. Your safety is our number one priority. Also, our employees visiting your home or office will never ask for your personal information or any kind of payment. This includes credit or debit card numbers.

April is National Safe Digging Month

person digging a whole in the ground with a shovel

April is National Safe Digging Month, and BTC reminds subscribers, contractors, and excavators that the law requires them to call 811 before digging to ensure underground pipelines, conduits, fiber and other cables are properly marked.

Striking underground cables can cause serious injury and outages, resulting in repair costs and fines. Every digging project, even planting a tree or garden, requires a call to 811. The call is free and the fiber locate service is free. The call must be made whether the job is being performed by a professional or a do-it-yourselfer.

A free call to 811 in the BTC service area automatically connects the caller to the Kentucky one-call center, which collects information about digging projects. The one-call center provides information to the utility companies, so we can send representatives to mark the locations of nearby underground fiber and the drop to your location. The locator will mark the underground lines with flags, paint or both. Once lines have been properly marked and confirmation from all to the utility owners is received, projects may proceed as long as caution is used around the marked areas.

Calling before you dig is more than a good idea – it’s the law. Remember, you must call 811, not BTC before you dig. You must contact 811 two full working business days before you dig. For more information visit kentucky811.org.

Community Involvement

BTC won 1st place in the miscellaneous category of the Ballard County Christmas parade earning a prize of a $500 donation to a charity of our choice. We chose Ballard County Family Focus Family Resource Center.

Scott Alexander (a BTC Employee) and his wife, Angela, won a $125 from the Chamber Christmas Lights Driving Tour and also chose to give it to Ballard County Family Focus Family Resource Center.

No Landline Required!

Do you still have a landline with BTC? Do you know it is no longer required to have a landline for BTC Internet Services?

If you no longer use or need your landline service, it’s just one phone call to drop that old landline and get your internet connection upgraded to a much better service.

If you are new to BTC, we do not require a landline phone service to have our Internet service installed!

For existing customers, call our office at 270-665-5186 and we have a special deal for anyone dropping their landline service. BTC will upgrade your Internet service to the new package of your choice, remove your landline from billing and you will only pay for your current Internet service for six months. At the end of 6 months, you can keep the new package or switch to another package, and we will begin billing you for the new package.

We are required by the FCC to have all Internet subscribers on a package of 100Mbps X 20 Mbps this year. BTC is providing you with an opportunity to upgrade your Internet package at a discounted rate. Please contact our office at 270-665-5186 for more information and we can upgrade most subscribers without having to come to your house.

We Aim to Please.
No Hidden Fees!

At BTC, we believe connecting your home or business should not come with unnecessary upfront costs or work. Many large internet providers charge installation fees, add hidden costs and require long-term contracts. At BTC, we remove those barriers. When our members are ready for service, we are ready to connect them — without the extra financial burden.

We also know the level of service we provide is second to none. When something is not working, waiting days simply is not acceptable. Your connection is not a luxury — it is how businesses operate, how students complete assignments, how families stay connected, and how work gets done from home. Large providers often schedule service calls days (sometimes even weeks) out. Calls are routed through national service centers, and customers are left waiting through long appointment windows.

At BTC, that is not how we operate. Because we are local, we can provide same-day service in most cases. Our technicians live here. They understand the urgency because they experience the same needs in their own homes. When you call BTC, you are not placed in a queue across the country. You are calling neighbors who care — and who respond. That kind of responsiveness builds trust. And trust is something we have been earning for 75 years.
